A master's job is
never done, it lives on through the ages.
The annual Installation of Officers was held on December 17, 1995 and the newly installed Master, Bro. David Hodges, was installed in his second term as Master of Clovis Lodge and his 4th year as Master overall. (Now what in the world was he thinking when he said OK I'll do that! hehehe) After being installed the Master delivered a message of fraternal inspiration and offered his thanks.
On January 11th Mr. Nugent and Mr. Kincade were elected to receive the degrees of Masonry in Clovis Lodge. (Now all hell was really going to break loose! hehehe)
On January 18th I received my first degree...damn was I scared! And on February 15th, I recited my first degree proficiency. Whoa, I only thought I was scared on January 18th...hehehe.
On February 22nd I received my 2nd degree. What I didn't know was that the local Prince Hall Lodge was making their first ever visit to Clovis Lodge and the place was packed and I mean packed! I was only kidding about being nervous the other 2 nights! 19 members of King Solomon Lodge #6, dressed in Tuxedo's, were escorted into the Lodge to a standing ovation and applause that was deafening and lasted several minutes.
At the stated meeting in March, Bro. Alan Burnham, Past Master of Clovis Lodge, stated that the annual crab feed had been a success and that he would continue to do it for two more years, as of 2001 he still is committed for 1 more year, and then that's it!!! hehehe That's what he always says.
In April I received my third degree and after the degree, Bro. Thomas K. MacNicol presented me with the Masonic Bible that I had taken my obligations on. Also in the stated meeting in April a resolution was presented to raise the dues to $60.00 per year starting in January of 1997. In May there was a lot more discussion about the raising of the dues and the Lodge was informed that the building was generating more expenses and that they would have to be met sooner or later.
In June there was more discussion about the dues increase and finally the big vote was taken, the increase passed by a margin of 20 to 7.
In the July stated meeting a petition for degrees from Mr. Sean Hunter Rutledge was read. Oh no...if they only knew then what they know now! hehehe. Also I gave my 3rd degree proficiency on this evening after waiting 2 months, it was too busy with all of the discussion about the dues.
At the stated meeting in August Mr. Pat Leeper and Mr. Sean Hunter Rutledge were elected to receive the degrees of Masonry in Clovis Lodge...the manifesto writer was born! hehehe. Also Bro. Bob Lewis informed the Lodge that certificates were now being printed for Red Bank, Gettysburg, Garfield and Weldon Elementary Schools. Way to go Bob!
ON September 20 Sean Rutledge receives his first degree with me setting in as Senior Deacon...what a cruel fate destiny was dealing Clovis Lodge hehehe!
In October a report was made on the exterior maintenance that was being done to the Lodge building. We had several work parties of the summer and it consisted of repairing the fascia boards, water blasting the same, priming and painting all of the exterior trim to the building and as to what camaraderie the project was generating between the members.
Brethren lost in this year were Bro's. Henry Edward Allcock, Bob Richard Combs, Jack Nathan Cox, Louis Houston David, Elmer Herman Goff, Harold Dean Haskin, James Blewett Hasler, William Henry Hunt, Bernard Andrew Mikkelsen, Joseph Alma Orndoff, Virgil Roy Osborn, Merle Ferdinand Person, Maynard William Shepard and David Murel Smith.
